Louisiana L’Auberge Casino Attempted Holdup Leads to Arrest
An armed man in a white hoodie tried to rob another man at Louisiana’s L’Auberge Casino & Hotel Baton Rouge parking lot last week. The firearm turned out to be a BB gun.

Soon after the robbery, the sole suspect fled the lot and was spotted on the first floor of the casino’s parking garage. He then made his way to a nearby Honda.
A deputy pointed a firearm at the suspect. That led the suspect to drive away from the garage.
Later in the week, the suspect was apprehended. He was identified as Christopher Thomas Jr., 21, of Baton Rouge.
Charges include attempted armed robbery, resisting an officer, flight from an officer, and obstruction of justice, according to BRProud.com, a local news organization.
Deputies initially were told the incident was a “YouTube prank,” the news report said. But then it was discovered a BB gun was used in the attempted robbery.
No injuries were reported.
Alleged Voyeurism
In another incident, last week, John T. Metoyer, 56, of Natchitoches, La., was charged with video voyeurism. He allegedly used a cell phone to take a video and photos while pointing the device up a woman’s skirt on Oct. 1 at the L’Auberge Casino.
The victim and a friend were at a roulette table, when the incident took place, police said. Metoyer then attempted to take a new round of videos and photos of the woman as he watched her from behind, BPProud.com.
Casino security staff soon apprehended Metoyer. He was then handed over to the local police.
Metoyer was booked at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He later was released from custody. His case will be heard in Louisiana courts.
Elsewhere in Louisiana, three suspects were charged for the Sept. 29 robbery at Louisiana’s Cane Row Truck Stop & Casino, a local sheriff’s office revealed on Monday. Five additional suspects were arrested on Oct. 11 for the heist.
The most recent arrests include Jose Luis Gordillo, 18, of Gulfport, Miss., Hector Omar Barahona, 20, of New Orleans, La., and Brayon Chinchilla Pacheco, 18, of Harvey, La., Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon said in a statement.
The earlier arrests include Jonathan Lopez, 19, also of Harvey, La., Roller Avila, 19, of Donaldsonville, La., Norman D. Escalate, 18, of Terrytown, La., and an unnamed 17-year-old from Gretna, La.
Each was charged with armed robbery with a firearm. A 16-year-old from Marrero, La., was charged with being an accessory after the fact to armed robbery with a firearm.
Barstool Sportsbook Opening
A few days ago, the L’Auberge Hotel and Casino had a ribbon cutting of the Barstool Sportsbook. It includes a 22-foot video wall, 20 betting kiosks, three terminals, two blackjack tables, and 30 televisions.
L’Auberge Casino & Hotel will open the sports betting venue next week. It will feature 25 sports betting kiosks.
The renovations to create the sportsbook totaled $6.7 million. It includes a 10,000-square-foot bar. It seats 250 patrons.
The sportsbook is to be located in two areas: the casino’s ground floor near high limit slots, as well as the area of the promenade.
Previously, the space was called The Stadium.
The casino is operated by Penn Entertainment.
